Describe the conditions on the train journey to Buchenwald. How did Elie and his father help each other during this ordeal?
Sample Answer
During the train journey to Buchenwald, the conditions were incredibly harsh and dehumanizing. The train was overcrowded, with no room to sit or lie down, and people were dying from exhaustion and suffocation. Elie and his father managed to survive by supporting each other physically and emotionally. Elie kept his father awake and talked to him to prevent him from succumbing to the urge to lie down and never get up. In turn, his father gave Elie encouragement and motivation to keep going, despite their dire circumstances.
